Vinoversigt
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti er selve indbegrebet af Bourgognes storhed, og La Tâche Monopole er et af husets mest ikoniske og eftertragtede vine. Markens status som monopole betyder, at hele vinmarken ejes og drives eksklusivt af DRC, hvilket giver en uforlignelig terroirkontrol og præcision. Årgang 2017 repræsenterer en vin med ekstraordinær balance, intensitet og raffinement.

Druesammensætning
100 % Pinot Noir.

Årgang
2017 var en klassisk Bourgogne-årgang med moderate temperaturer og jævn modning. Vinen fremstår mere elegant og aromatisk end muskuløs, med vægt på finesse, energi og terroirpræget klarhed.

Smagsnoter

Udseende:
Klar rubinrød farve med levende skær.

Aroma:
Fortryllende duft af vilde hindbær, kirsebær og rosenblade, ledsaget af eksotiske krydderier, blodappelsin og skovbund. Bouqueten udvikler sig konstant i glasset med kompleksitet og dybde.

Smag:
Fyldig og præcis med silkebløde tanniner og imponerende koncentration. Smagen byder på lag af røde bær, krydderier og mineralske undertoner. Der er en næsten elektrisk energi, som vidner om vinens livskraft og enorme lagringspotentiale.

Lagringspotentiale:
Frigivet i 2020. Drikkemoden fra omkring 2030 og med potentiale til at udvikle sig frem til 2050 eller længere under optimale kældervilkår.

Vinificering
Druerne høstes manuelt med ekstrem selektion. Vinifikationen foregår traditionelt med naturlig gæring i åbne kar. Modningen sker i 100 % nye franske egetræsfade i 16-18 måneder for at bevare struktur, dybde og finesse.

“The 2017 La Tâche Grand Cru soars from the glass with a captivating and beautifully integrated bouquet of exotic spices, rose petals, raspberries, cherries and blood orange mingled with notions of cinnamon and coniferous forest floor. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with a tightly coiled core that marks it out as the most muscular wine in the cellar, displaying considerable concentration and largely concealed structure. While this is a dramatic young La Tâche, there’s evidently plenty held in reserve too.”

The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s 2017s are showing brilliantly from bottle, and this tasting with Bertrand de Villaine was one of the absolute high points of my two months of visits along the Côte d’Or. While barrel tasting is informative, there is no substitute for tasting finished wines in bottle—especially at an estate such as the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, where élevage is quite long and the wines are allowed to take their time—and spending an hour or two with full glasses of wines such as these is not merely of immense professional interest but, I admit, a source of great personal pleasure.

DOMAINE DE LA ROMANÉE-CONTI LA TÂCHE GRAND CRU 2016

A morning spent with Aubert de Villaine provided an opportunity to taste the domaine’s 2016 and 2017 vintages. From bottle, the 2016s are stunning, equalling or surpassing the profound 2015s. There is a vibrancy and weightless intensity to the wines that mark them out as very special indeed. When the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti produces a great vintage, there’s nothing like it in Burgundy, and 2016 is a legitimately great vintage at this address. On the way to our tasting, we passed by the domaine’s entire stock of 2016 Echézeaux and Grands-Echézeaux, bottled entirely in magnum. Those wines won’t be released in early 2019: “perhaps we’ll drink them, or release them later, we haven’t decided”, said de Villaine, pointing to a stack of bottles that would nonetheless elicit green envy in any other producer of those two appellations.

Vintages

Of vintage 2017, de Villaine reported that the domaine refrained from green harvesting in the belief that the vines’ natural yield is the optimal yield. The wines, he observed, are “nicely balanced but slimmer than 2015 or 2016”, an analysis with which I wholeheartedly concur, and to which I venture to add that the 2017s are suppler, more open-knit and will be adapted to comparatively near-term consumption. Moreover, after several years of low yields, there will, at last, be a certain quantity of wine to slake the thirst of an adoring—and sometimes, it must be said, uncritical—public. In 2017, it’s also the case that the domaine’s two monopoles stand head-and-shoulders above their other appellations in terms of depth, breadth and incipient complexity, a rapport that I’ve attempted to reflect with my scores.

Vinous
The 2016 Romanée-Conti Grand Cru was picked on September 25 at 24hL/ha. As usual, I allowed it five or six minutes to open in the glass. It is a very subtle Romanée-Conti, more discreet than the 2016 La Tâche, but then you become entranced by its spellbinding purity and grace. It gradually builds aromatically, augmenting the black fruit with red, and developing scents of wild hedgerow and freshly tilled soil – almost a pastoral element. The palate is medium-bodied with extremely precise and fine tannin and notes of wild strawberry, cranberry and crushed limestone. This feels very harmonious, the texture silkier than the La Tâche, displaying just a touch of bay leaf and black pepper toward the sustained finish, which gains depth and grip with aeration. Exquisite, though I suspect the La Tâche will challenge it for supremacy. 440 cases produced. Tasted at Corney & Barrow’s annual in-bottle tasting

I 1869 købte M. Duvault-Blochet domainet og grundlagde Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, har en historie, som går mere end 8 århundreder og 9 ejere tilbage. I det 12. århundrede var ejendommen ejet af familie Vergy. 1631 blev den overtaget af M. Croonem bourg, som ændrede navnet til Romanée og skabte husets gode renommé. I 1760 blev huset solgt til Louis-François de Bourbon – Prinsen af Conti. Han tilføjede sit navn til La Romanée, og huset har siden heddet, som det vi idag kender. Han købte bla. dele af Richebourg og i de to Echézeaux marker. I dag ledes Domaine de la Romanée-Conti af Aubert de Villaine og Henri Roch. De Villaines far og Rochs morfar købte i 1942 ejendommmen. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti ejer vinmarkerne la Romanée-Conti og la Tâche , Desuden har huset part i Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux og Romanée-St.-Vivant, samt en “le petit” andel a le Montrachet.

Vinbruget er overvejende biologisk, formålet er at skabe balance i jorden,der således bidrager til vinstokkenes styrke. Afskaffelsen af alt andet end lige netop det strengt nødvendige i vinbruget, en meget selektiv udvælgelse af de bedste stokke samt streng beskæring gør, at høstudbyttet bliver ultra lavt i forhold til andre vinhuse. Alle druer håndplukkes under en høst, der går i gang ofte 14 dage efter alle andre . Før høsten har man haft en passage de nettoyage (udrensningspassage), man arbejder sig gennem rækkerne og klipper alle drueklaser fra, der er under standard. Efter høst sorteres druerne endnu engang manuelt, for at kasserer de druer, der enten er rådne eller ikke er modne. Vinen modnes i helt nye egetræsfade fra François Frères i Saint-Romain, hvis træ hovedsageligt kommer fra Vosges skovene. Vinen lagres i 16 til 18 måneder, hvorefter den tappes på flaske.

De to Echézeaux vine er kraftige vine med stor frugt. Romanee-St.-Vivant vinen er let, blød og med elegance Richebourg er en stor vin, den er kraftig med lang levetid. La Tâche er koncentreret, stor frugt og er fløjlsblød. Romanée-Conti vinen en særdeles harmonisk og rig vin. Et mesterværk. Den berømte, rigtige og rene smag af Pinot Noir skinner virkelig igennem.
