Campaccio Toscana 2019 Arillo
Arillo in Terrabianca is a prestigious winery in the heart of the most authentic Tuscany owned by the Burkard family. It is 2019 when Adriana and Urs Burkard initiate the Arillo in Terrabianca project with the acquisition of the estates Terrabianca in Chianti Classico, Il Tesoro in Maremma and Colle Brezza in Val d’Orcia. The aim is simple though ambitious: to make, wines with a strong identity and with a distinct territorial imprint following the principles of organic and minimalist wine growing, fostering those native grape varieties that find their best distinctive characteristics in the Tuscan territories.
Arillo in Terrabianca, a family brand. Reinterpreting the Burkard family’s coat of arms, Adriana and Urs have created the logo “Arillo in Terrabianca”: two stars and a castle on three hills, inscribed in an oval reminiscent of the shape of a grape, “arillus” in latin. The castle represents the solidity of the family; the two stars account for the future and the continuity through the Burkard’s sons, Gregor and Ricardo; the hills symbolize the three estates: Terrabianca, il Tesoro and Colle Brezza.
In the beginning was Chianti: Terrabianca estate. In the heart of Chianti Classico, between the provinces of Siena and Florence, in the hamlet of San Fedele a Paterno in the municipality of Radda in Chianti stands the most historic of the three Arillo estates: Terrabianca, whose name pays homage to the characteristic whitish-spotted soil, unique in the Tuscan landscape. Spread over 12.5 hectares vineyards are cultivated mainly with Sangiovese and protected by a unique microclimate of light, warmth and high temperature range, thanks to the significant altitude between 350 and 470 meters above sea level. The vineyards are surrounded by large wooded areas that greatly influence the microclimatic characteristics and the maintenance of a biodiversity that is fundamental to the quality of the wines. At Terrabianca are produced Sacello Chianti Classico Annata DOCG, Poggio Croce Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG and Terrabianca Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, wines faithful to their origins, with articulated structures and capable of expressing the elegance typical of this area of Chianti Classico.
