“As a winery and as a family, we grow grapes, we make wine, we nurture a garden, we cook with the food we grow, and we count our blessings. This is what we do and we love it.”
– Jack Cakebread, co-founder
Nearly 50 years ago, our story started with a piece of a land, a family passionate about wine and a community of friends and partners who helped bring Cakebread Cellars to life. Since founding the winery in 1973, we have set out to create quality wines that pair best with good food and good company.
Today, the winery owns over 1,600 acres with 600 of those acres planted to vine throughout the Napa and Anderson Valleys. In the past 50 years, Cakebread Cellars has only had 4 winemakers and uses the same grapes from the same vineyards year over year. Stephanie Jacobs, our current winemaker, has been with us for more than 15 years, making timeless wines with consistent, uncompromising quality.
Cakebread Cellars’ range of vineyards represent an array of cooler and warmer sites, each lending a distinct personality to the wines, providing diversity, complexity and unparalleled quality. From bright Chardonnays to bold Cabernets, our remarkable portfolio of wines are known for having the ideal balance of acid and tannins that pair deliciously with food.
Cakebread Cellars embraces environmental responsibility with practices that range from sustainable farming to diligent water and energy conservation, including recycling over 90% of winery generated waste. We were the second winery to ever achieve Napa Green Certification. Cakebread Cellars is also Fish Friendly certified and participates in the Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing program.
